Updated October 2026. Written by Massive. Canonical page: https://massive.com/compare/massive-vs-finnhub

Massive covers US options and futures, bills monthly, and publishes its commercial prices. Every Finnhub self-serve plan is personal use only. If you only need 30+ years of financial statements or alternative data, Finnhub specializes in that.

- Massive leads on: Price, Rate limits, Options and futures, Commercial use
- Finnhub leads on: Free-tier call rate, Alternative data, Non-US stocks
- Even on: Tick data, Fundamentals, Streaming, AI agents

## What each one is

**Massive.** Massive is a market data API for US stocks, options, indices, and futures, plus forex and crypto. It delivers data over REST, WebSockets, S3 flat files, and an MCP server.

**Finnhub.** Finnhub is a financial data API with separately priced modules for US market data, forex, crypto, and fundamentals, plus alternative data such as ESG and congressional trading.

## Choose Massive if

- You need US options or futures data.
- You want to pay month to month.
- You plan to show the data to customers and want a published price.
- You want unlimited API calls, not a per-minute cap.

## Choose Finnhub if

- You need 30+ years of financial statements or 20+ years of analyst estimates.
- You use alternative data such as ESG, patents, lobbying, or congressional trading.
- You need bond data from FINRA TRACE.
- You want a free plan with 60 calls per minute.

## Where they differ

### Personal use vs commercial use

Every Finnhub plan with a published price is personal use. Showing the data to customers needs an Enterprise agreement, price on request. Massive Business plans for stocks, options, and currencies list their prices, so you know the cost before you build.

### Billing terms

Finnhub Basic and Standard bill quarterly. Professional bills annually. Each data domain is its own module. Massive bills monthly, with a cheaper annual option.

### Alternative data

For alternative data, Finnhub may be the better choice: ESG, supply chain, patents, lobbying, and congressional trading. Massive covers financials and ratios, SEC filings, insider trades, and short interest, with analyst estimates as an add-on.

## Pricing

Prices in USD per month, from public pricing pages on October 23, 2026.

| What you need | Massive | Finnhub |
| --- | --- | --- |
| US stock market data, personal use | $29 to $199/mo, billed monthly | $49.99 or $129.99/mo billed quarterly, $199.99/mo billed annually [2] |
| Commercial use in your product | Stocks Business $2,499/mo, self-serve | Enterprise, contact sales [4] |
| Every data domain in one plan | One plan per market, from $29/mo each | All-In-One at $3,500/mo, billed annually, through sales [1] |

## Moving from Finnhub

### Example: daily AAPL bars for January 2024

Finnhub:

```bash
curl "https://finnhub.io/api/v1/stock/candle?symbol=AAPL&resolution=D&from=1704153600&to=1706745600" \
  -H "X-Finnhub-Token: YOUR_API_KEY"
```

Massive:

```bash
curl "https://api.massive.com/v2/aggs/ticker/AAPL/range/1/day/2024-01-02/2024-01-31" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
```

| Field | Finnhub | Massive |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Timestamp | t[] (Unix seconds) | t (Unix milliseconds, bar start) |
| Open | o[] | o |
| High | h[] | h |
| Low | l[] | l |
| Close | c[] | c |
| Volume | v[] | v |
| VWAP | None | vw |
| Trade count | None | n |

- Finnhub marks stock candles as premium, so the free plan returns 403 for this request. The Massive free plan includes daily and minute bars.
- Finnhub returns parallel arrays, one per field. Massive returns one object per bar.
- Finnhub takes Unix seconds for from and to. Massive takes dates in the path.

### Switch with an agent

Paste this into any coding agent:

> Find every place my project calls Finnhub. Switch those calls to the Massive REST API. Read https://massive.com/docs/llms.txt for endpoints and auth, and read the API key from the MASSIVE_API_KEY environment variable. Keep my function signatures and data shapes the same, and list anything Massive does not cover.

The ported code calls the REST API directly. The Massive MCP server is optional, for checking real responses while the agent works: https://massive.com/docs/ai-tools/quickstart. Skills and plugins for coding agents: https://github.com/massive-com/ai

## Questions
