Massive vs EODHD

Massive is built on exchange feeds: real-time data from 100% of US stock volume, every trade back to 2003, plus options and futures. If you only need end-of-day prices or fundamentals for non-US stocks, EODHD covers that.

What is Massive

Massive is a market data API for US stocks, options, indices, and futures, plus forex and crypto. It delivers data over REST, WebSockets, S3 flat files, and an MCP server.

What is EODHD

EODHD is a financial data API covering 70 exchanges, with end-of-day prices, fundamentals, and delayed intraday data, in plans from $19.99/mo.

Choose Massive if

  • You need real-time US data from the whole market, not one exchange.
  • You need US options history or futures.
  • You make heavy intraday requests and do not want weighted call limits.
  • You need intraday data in real time, not finalized hours after the close.

Choose EODHD if

  • You need stocks from many countries in one API.
  • You want cheap end-of-day history back to the 1960s.
  • You want fundamentals for companies outside the US.

Where they differ

Where the data comes from

Massive takes data from exchange feeds and covers 100% of US stock volume in real time. EODHD says it does not use exchange feeds and aggregates more than 100 sources instead. Its US WebSocket streams trades and quotes from Cboe EDGX alone, capped at 50 symbols per token by default. Fine for a dashboard. Not for anything that depends on the national best bid and offer.

How calls are counted

EODHD plans allow 100,000 calls a day, weighted by endpoint: an end-of-day request costs 1, intraday 5, fundamentals 10, and bulk 100 or more. Massive paid plans have no call limit.

Outside the US

EODHD may be the better choice here: 70 exchanges, US end-of-day history back to 1962, and fundamentals for companies outside the US. Massive covers US markets, plus global forex and crypto, with SEC filings, insider trades, and economic data on every Stocks plan.

  • EODHD tickers take an exchange suffix, such as AAPL.US. The .US is optional for US stocks.
  • EODHD returns CSV unless you pass fmt=json. Massive returns JSON.
  • Both APIs treat the start and end dates as inclusive.

Switch with an agent

Paste this into Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or any coding agent. It finds your EODHD calls and ports them to Massive.

Find every place my project calls EODHD. Switch those calls to the Massive REST API. Read https://massive.com/docs/llms.txt for endpoints and auth, and read the API key from the MASSIVE_API_KEY environment variable. Keep my function signatures and data shapes the same, and list anything Massive does not cover.

The ported code calls the REST API directly. The Massive MCP server is optional, for checking real responses while the agent works. Massive also publishes skills and plugins for coding agents.

Questions

Is EODHD data good enough for backtesting?
For daily bars, often yes. EODHD builds prices from 100+ sources instead of exchange feeds, and finalizes intraday bars 2 to 3 hours after the close. Massive data comes from exchange feeds, with trades and quotes back to 2003.
Does EODHD have real-time US stock data?
Its US WebSocket streams trades and quotes from Cboe EDGX alone, 50 symbols per token by default, from $29.99/mo. Massive real-time data covers 100% of US volume for $199/mo.
Can I download all US stocks every night?
Both can. EODHD bulk calls cost 100 or more of your daily calls. Massive grouped daily bars return every US stock in one request, and flat files cover the full history.
Massive vs EODHD: which should I pick?
If you only need global end-of-day prices or fundamentals, EODHD can cost less. Massive for real-time US data from the whole market, tick history, options, and futures.
