Does Massive offer free trials?

Business evaluations and proofs of concept are arranged with our sales team. Individual plans have no trial and no free data samples, but they are billed monthly and canceling keeps your access to the end of the month you paid for, so one month is the smallest commitment.

The answer depends on which side of the product you are on. Business plans get a real evaluation period, arranged with sales. Individual subscriptions have no trial, but they also have no minimum term, and the free Basic tier lets you see the exact shape of every endpoint's response before you spend anything, which is most of what a trial is for.

Applies to

  • Plans: business and enterprise plans for an evaluation; individual subscriptions for everything else.
  • Endpoints: the free Basic tier reaches aggregate bars, reference data, corporate actions and technical indicators. Trades, quotes, snapshots, the WebSockets and the flat files need a paid tier.
  • Asset classes: all.

How to evaluate a business plan

Email sales@massive.com and say which products you want to evaluate and what you are building. They will set up an evaluation or a proof of concept and scope it to what you are testing, which is not something the dashboard can do.

What to do without a trial on an individual plan

Without a trial on an individual plan, two things get you most of the way:

  1. Use the free Basic tier first. It gives you end-of-day aggregate bars, reference data, corporate actions and technical indicators, with two years of history at 5 requests a minute. That answers most integration questions, field names, pagination, ticker formats, for nothing. It does not include trades, quotes, snapshots, the WebSockets or the flat files, so it will not tell you how those behave.
  2. Buy one month. Individual plans are monthly, and canceling does not cut the period you paid for, so the exposure is one month rather than a year. Annual billing saves 20 percent but commits you for the term, so evaluate monthly first.

The free tier cannot show you real-time behavior, tick data or streaming, because each of those needs a paid tier.

Free samples of historical data are not available on individual plans either, so we do not send a few minutes of ticks or a file for a day you choose before you subscribe. For the format of data that only the paid tiers include, such as trades and quotes, the documentation page for the dataset has a Sample Response or Example Data section, as on the forex quotes endpoint and the stock trades flat file.

Why individual plans have no trial

Individual plans have no trial because a real-time trial would mean granting exchange-licensed data before an agreement is in place, and the free tier already answers most of what a trial would. It is a frequent request, and the free tier plus monthly billing is the current answer rather than a permanent position.

If you see an error

Real-time data not working during an evaluation is usually the exchange agreements rather than the evaluation itself. Check the agreements page.

An evaluation that has ended stops returning paid data with a NOT_AUTHORIZED response. Reply on the same thread with sales if you need more time to finish it.

No, and the ones it withholds are the famous ones: SPX, DJI, RUT and VIX all need a paid Indices tier. Basic still reaches more than 10,000 of the 13,000-odd indices Massive publishes, and NDX and the Nasdaq Composite are among them.

    Description
Yes. Every extended-hours trade and quote is published, from 04:00 to 20:00 Eastern. There is no session parameter, so you select a session with timestamps, and expect far fewer aggregate bars outside regular hours because many extended-hours trades are odd lots that cannot set a price.
