About this data
A company insider (an officer, director, or large shareholder) files an SEC Form 4 within two business days of trading their own company’s stock. We sort those filings into open-market buys and sells. The numbers here cover the last 30 days, and the same data is in the Massive API.
Frequently asked questions
What is an SEC Form 4?
It’s the form an insider files with the SEC after trading their own company’s stock. They get two business days to report it, and it shows who traded, how many shares, the price, and whether it ran through a pre-set 10b5-1 plan.
What counts as a buy or sell here?
Only open-market purchases and sales. Form 4s also cover option exercises, stock grants, gifts, and shares held back to cover taxes, but none of those are someone deciding to trade at the market price, so we leave them out of the buy and sell totals.
Which companies have the most insider activity right now?
The ones at the top of the list above, sorted by their most recent filing. For the full, always-current record, the Massive Form 4 API returns every filing with its trades, prices, and plan flags.
Does insider buying mean the stock will go up?
Not on its own. Insiders sell for all kinds of reasons that say nothing about the stock, so sells are noisy. A handful of them buying on the open market around the same time tends to get more attention. Either way, treat it as a starting point for research, not a reason to trade.
